Terry Hawkins' Book Picked Up by Berrett-Koehler Publishing!!!

We are THRILLED to announce that this week San Francisco-based Berrett-Koehler picked up one of the books authored by our very own Ms. Terry Hawkins! The publication giant acquired Terry's inspirational book, "Why Wait to Be Great? It's Either Now or Too Late!," originally released by the self-publishing group iUniverse. Congratulations, Terry!!!

Standard Ovation's friend Jeff Civillico is launching an incredible charitable organization on October 28, 2012. Win-Win Entertainment will bring together many talented performers from the Las Vegas strip for a spectacular launch event. This is the first of what will be the annual event through which Win-Win will raise the funds to cover its operational costs and expenses, and ensure that its services can be offered to the charities it supports at absolutely no cost to them.

"Pain is a necessary part of life. When we experience physical pain, we pay attention. We know that our body is telling us something. Many hospitals will caution the use of sedatives as they can hide the true issue and make it harder to diagnose. It is no different for emotional pain. This time it is our soul telling us something. When we try to numb our emotional pain we don't give ourselves the o
pportunity to face the core issues at the heart of our pain. "Doing pain well" is not about avoiding it, going around it, going under it or hoping it will go away. It is about trusting that you have all the resources you need to walk through your pain - right into the eye of it - breathing deeply into it - and then allowing yourself to come out the other side. Your pain is one of your greatest guides. Let's not numb it through blame, accusation, medication, anger, pity, or drama. If you are feeling pain, you are communicating with your soul. Pay attention to the wisdom that will flow! Go STICKMAN!"

There is NO shortage of opportunities. Many come every day when we are either too busy or too lazy to recognize them. You just need to have your eyes open and your ears on “listen-mode” to recognize them and then be willing to take action. Don’t worry if you miss a few — many come around again in a slightly different form. We get so tied up “doing” what we do that we close off new ways to enhance and/or expand what we do. I still read a lot, listen to audio books and attend seminars. Is this because I have “extra” time? NO!! But you only stop learning when you decide to do that. Networking, being inquisitive and being busy living rather than being busy dying are all ways for you to discover just how much there is out there for you to explore. I am not getting any younger so I have to keep moving a bit faster every day just to sometimes keep up. Hang out with positive people … the negaholics will drag you down to their level with their messages of doom and gloom.

NEAT STUFF:
I just came across a really neat website if you are ever in the mood for travel. Check it out yourself at www.travelhawk.net. There are close to 3 million photos from hotels around the world in addition to virtually unlimited pages of information about other travel stuff. It’s the best place I have ever looked for information when you are in the planning stages for your next big vacation or just a quick getaway.

MINI-RANT:
Just when you thought you had seen and heard everything, now the striking NHLPA hockey players have taken their case to the Alberta Labour Relations Board for a ruling on whether the NHL lockout violates their union rights. Are you kidding me? A bunch of millionaires making a mockery of the rights union members have fought so hard to obtain is disgusting. I don’t recall seeing any NHL players out picketing the last time their union brothers with real jobs were on strike. The fact these millionaires are even in a so-called union is a slap in the face to the thousands of real union members who pay money to watch these clowns. Spending taxpayer money to have the Labour Relations Board listen to their bleating is the real disgrace.

What do people gain from your keynotes?

“Effective presentations combine the right informational tools with the right amount of motivation. Motivation alone is fleeting, but the right tools without motivation are lifeless... I provide both.” My desire is to give people an experience that will cut through the baggage and barnacles that we build up, laugh at the situations we face and then, being open to the information, deliver solid content that equips the audience with what they need to be more influence in this tornado of life.

What are your top three tips for organizations seeking to be more customer focused?

1)  A customer-focused company has to have a culture that breeds service to each other. Foster a culture of service by starting with the very top and watch your customer’s experience ignite.
2)  Customer Service is a skill set. It is more than a personality trait. What your company needs are people with skills. And I love to say: “I will know people with skill sets when the tornado rises!” Don’t stop investing in your people’s customer service skills.
3)  Keep it fun. Reward what you expect. Promote the joy. Don’t keep silent with the feed back from outside. We all live behind our eyeballs and walk through this life experience hope we’re doing it right. Don’t let your people guess. Tell them what they say and do that’s spot on and they have a tendency to do it again.... and repetition becomes a habit and habits become culture. 


How do you manage to empower & motivate people?

Interesting question. I don’t think I can empower and motivate. I think I am empowered and motivated and that infects everything I have to give. Watching someone who is passionate and has something concrete to share that I connect to allows me to generate a desire to do/be the same. I motivate myself. I empower myself. That’s why I smile at being introduced as a motivational speaker. I can’t motivate anyone that doesn’t want to be motivated. I love what I do and won’t talk about anything that I don’t know and believe 100%... and it shows. Those that are motivated at the end of my presentations are people of choice and action. I just gave them permission to be passionate because I’m passionate. So join me. Let’s be passionate together, and change the world!
