Terry Hawkins' Book Picked Up by Berrett-Koehler Publishing!!!

We are THRILLED to announce that this week San Francisco-based Berrett-Koehler picked up one of the books authored by our very own Ms. Terry Hawkins! The publication giant acquired Terry's inspirational book, "Why Wait to Be Great? It's Either Now or Too Late!," originally released by the self-publishing group iUniverse. Congratulations, Terry!!!

Just like the team here at Standard Ovation, the folks at Berrett-Koehler apparently know a good thing when they see it. BK President Steve Piersanti was quoted saying, "As a speaker, Terry Hawkins is absolutely spectacular. She mesmerizes and inspires crowds on the business lecture circuit, and has brilliantly taken that energy, passion and wisdom and put it into a wonderful book.” “‘Why Wait to Be Great’ fits perfectly within Berrett-Koehler’s mission, and we are thrilled to have her.” So are we!

Terry hopes with this new partnership she will be able to help even more people overcome adversity in their lives. “It’s been my life’s work to help people achieve their goals and experience success both personally and professionally,” said Terry. "With the help of Barrett-Koehler and iUniverse, the methods and teachings I’ve used in my own life to overcome great adversity throughout my career, are now available to everyone in ‘Why Wait to Be Great,’ and I hope it encourages others to deal with their pain and follow their dreams just as I have with my own.”

And in this awesome spirit of philanthropy, Terry has been educating businesses and individuals for nearly 25 years. She founded the professional training company, People in Progress Global, in 1989 and has since helped more than 300,000 people realize their goals and improve their lives. She also speaks at events all over the world inspiring people to make needed life changes and giving them specific tools to actually do it. Before relocating to the USA, Terry was the most sought-after, award-winning female speaker in Australia. "Why Wait to Be Great?” is one of many books Terry has written or co-writen, including her very popular “Stickman Rules” children’s series, “Secrets of Inspiring Women Exposed,” and “The Power of More than One.

Sam Richter - loved by all audiences!

"Sam [Richter] was great, I have seen him three times now and each time I pick up some new gems. He is a captivating speaker, very energetic and has a powerful message. In our recent conference we had a mix of different folks with different backgrounds – white collar and blue collar, welders, engineers, sales, admin, etc. I was expecting the sales folks to be impressed and enjoy Sam's presentation. I was pleasantly surprised that I also got a lot of positive feedback about Sam from our manufacturing personnel. I would highly recommend him as a keynote speaker!"

National Bullying Prevention Month - A message from Terry Hawkins

A POWERFUL message made by the remarkable Terry Hawkins - worth the read. Terry can share, teach and spread these thoughts to really make a difference whatever your age or situation. In honor of October being National Bullying Prevention Month - let us know if you'd like Terry to speak to your organization or group to make an impact on how important it is to deal with the emotional side of things in your life, too. Contact Standard Ovation: 913.498.9772 or email: to check Terry's availability & fee structure!

From Miss Terry Hawkins:
"Pain is a necessary part of life. When we experience physical pain, we pay attention. We know that our body is telling us something. Many hospitals will caution the use of sedatives as they can hide the true issue and make it harder to diagnose. It is no different for emotional pain. This time it is our soul telling us something. When we try to numb our emotional pain we don't give ourselves the o
pportunity to face the core issues at the heart of our pain. "Doing pain well" is not about avoiding it, going around it, going under it or hoping it will go away. It is about trusting that you have all the resources you need to walk through your pain - right into the eye of it - breathing deeply into it - and then allowing yourself to come out the other side. Your pain is one of your greatest guides. Let's not numb it through blame, accusation, medication, anger, pity, or drama. If you are feeling pain, you are communicating with your soul. Pay attention to the wisdom that will flow! Go STICKMAN!"

Kit Grant's Latest Newsletter: Keeping in Touch (K.I.T.), Oct.4, 2012 — Opportunity Abundance

“The reason so many people never get anywhere in life is because when opportunity knocks, they are out in the backyard looking for four-leaf clovers.” - Walter P Chrysler

Kit Grant's latest newsletter:
There is NO shortage of opportunities. Many come every day when we are either too busy or too lazy to recognize them. You just need to have your eyes open and your ears on “listen-mode” to recognize them and then be willing to take action. Don’t worry if you miss a few — many come around again in a slightly different form. We get so tied up “doing” what we do that we close off new ways to enhance and/or expand what we do. I still read a lot, listen to audio books and attend seminars. Is this because I have “extra” time? NO!! But you only stop learning when you decide to do that. Networking, being inquisitive and being busy living rather than being busy dying are all ways for you to discover just how much there is out there for you to explore. I am not getting any younger so I have to keep moving a bit faster every day just to sometimes keep up. Hang out with positive people … the negaholics will drag you down to their level with their messages of doom and gloom.

I just came across a really neat website if you are ever in the mood for travel. Check it out yourself at There are close to 3 million photos from hotels around the world in addition to virtually unlimited pages of information about other travel stuff. It’s the best place I have ever looked for information when you are in the planning stages for your next big vacation or just a quick getaway.

My new speaker demo DVD is now ready — a few people requested a copy two weeks ago and should have it in the next few days. If you (or someone you know) is planning a meeting, conference or convention and is looking for a speaker, please pass along a copy of my DVD. Send me an e-mail to with your physical mailing address and I’ll send you a copy.

Just when you thought you had seen and heard everything, now the striking NHLPA hockey players have taken their case to the Alberta Labour Relations Board for a ruling on whether the NHL lockout violates their union rights. Are you kidding me? A bunch of millionaires making a mockery of the rights union members have fought so hard to obtain is disgusting. I don’t recall seeing any NHL players out picketing the last time their union brothers with real jobs were on strike. The fact these millionaires are even in a so-called union is a slap in the face to the thousands of real union members who pay money to watch these clowns. Spending taxpayer money to have the Labour Relations Board listen to their bleating is the real disgrace.

Are you in a rut? Let Marilyn Sherman help you get out!

A quick note from Miss Marilyn Sherman:

Are you in a rut? Are your employees and colleagues in a rut? Well, a rut is a grave with two ends gone. We’ve got to get you out of that! And that’s what I do.

Hello, my name is Marilyn Sherman and it is my passion in life to END WORKPLACE STAGNATION! In my motivational keynote presentations I will equip your attendees with the tools it takes to do more, be more, to overcome obstacles and really LOVE what they do. Have you ever noticed that the best things in life rarely happen in our comfort zones? I want to help move your organization from comfort zone to POWER zone.

So here’s how this works. Through moving stories and a lifetime of trial and error - and more importantly trial and success! - I will arm your group with the strategies and actionable information it takes to increase employee engagement, improve morale and to inspire attendees to own the overall success of your organization.

You have two options. First is “How To Get A Front Row Seat In Life.” We all know that too many people settle for mediocrity in life. But have you ever considered how settling for mediocrity this might effect your organization... and your results? Everybody deserves a front row seat in life, but so few of us know how to get it. I know, because that used to be me, until I set about taking control and practicing the very principles I teach today. The best life is lived in the front row, and I would love to show your group how to get there.

Your second option is my “Who’s Comfort Zone Are You In?” keynote presentation. Has someone close to you ever had their own plan for your life? Have you noticed how many of us live lives shaped by “what others think” and “what I should do?” I want to show your group how to overcome the obstacles to success and get rid of excuses. I inspire attendees to develop and act on their own vision, and to make it congruent with their values, as well as the values of your organization. A simple change in perspective can often cause a HUGE, positive change in life. Effecting this kind of change is my mission and I welcome the opportunity to share this with your group.

Michael Hoffman | Mastering the Tornado of Business

A quick Q&A with business expert, Michael Hoffman:

With a highly interactive style, Michael Hoffman's unique delivery cements his expertise in the minds of his attendees to ignite the tactics and techniques necessary to approach their jobs "on purpose" with an attitude of ownership and professionalism. Michael uses his rich background to drive home his message that business is and will always be about "people". "How we approach our customers both internal and external will set us apart from all our competition."

What do people gain from your keynotes?

“Effective presentations combine the right informational tools with the right amount of motivation. Motivation alone is fleeting, but the right tools without motivation are lifeless... I provide both.” My desire is to give people an experience that will cut through the baggage and barnacles that we build up, laugh at the situations we face and then, being open to the information, deliver solid content that equips the audience with what they need to be more influence in this tornado of life.

What are your top three tips for organizations seeking to be more customer focused?

1)  A customer-focused company has to have a culture that breeds service to each other. Foster a culture of service by starting with the very top and watch your customer’s experience ignite.
2)  Customer Service is a skill set. It is more than a personality trait. What your company needs are people with skills. And I love to say: “I will know people with skill sets when the tornado rises!” Don’t stop investing in your people’s customer service skills.
3)  Keep it fun. Reward what you expect. Promote the joy. Don’t keep silent with the feed back from outside. We all live behind our eyeballs and walk through this life experience hope we’re doing it right. Don’t let your people guess. Tell them what they say and do that’s spot on and they have a tendency to do it again.... and repetition becomes a habit and habits become culture.

How do you manage to empower & motivate people?

Interesting question. I don’t think I can empower and motivate. I think I am empowered and motivated and that infects everything I have to give. Watching someone who is passionate and has something concrete to share that I connect to allows me to generate a desire to do/be the same. I motivate myself. I empower myself. That’s why I smile at being introduced as a motivational speaker. I can’t motivate anyone that doesn’t want to be motivated. I love what I do and won’t talk about anything that I don’t know and believe 100%... and it shows. Those that are motivated at the end of my presentations are people of choice and action. I just gave them permission to be passionate because I’m passionate. So join me. Let’s be passionate together, and change the world!

HCAHPS | What are you doing to IMPROVE patient satisfaction?

HCAHPS: What are you doing to improve patient satisfaction?

*In 2013, the HCAHPS assessment will be required by ALL healthcare organizations utilizing Medicare funds!
As a healthcare provider, patient satisfaction is one of the most important parts of your job. And as a leader, you also know the importance of patient satisfaction scores. Measuring up on the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Health Providers and Systems, or HCAHPS assessment, means not only more patients choose your facility but also that you receive a higher reimbursement of funds on Medicare services. So how is your organization measuring up?

The crucial first step to reinforcing your commitment to quality patient and family-centered care is engaging your employees, which is absolutely necessary in managing your patients’ experiences. “Only with engaged employees can an organization drive customer or patient experiences, ” says employee engagement expert Gregg Lederman. Gregg has helped many healthcare organizations manage their patient experiences to drive employee engagement, productivity, profitable growth, and yes, even their HCAHPS scores.

Would you like to know about a patient satisfaction metric that lets you compare the experience you think your facility is delivering, to the experience actually being delivered to your patients? To learn more about Gregg Lederman's unique methodology, please contact Amy Crocker at Standard Ovation: 913.498.9773 or
